Night classes with three kids asleep in the next room

I studied between 9pm and midnight, four nights a week, for three years.

The romantic version of this story leaves out that I failed a module, that my eldest resented me for a whole year, and that I borrowed money from my sister twice.

What made it possible was not discipline. It was one neighbour who took the kids every Saturday morning, no questions, for three years.
